Carroll High School
Frontier High School
Tuesday night the Carroll Cougars traveled to Falcon Field for a makeup double header that was rescheduled earlier in the year due to a wash out. It was a double header that would leave everyone on the edge of their seats all night.
Back and forth scoring was the theme for game 1 with Carroll scoring on the first batter of the game. Trey Filbrun put a ball over the left field fence to make the score 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but the Falcons had an answer. After a Tanner Dold walk, Cole Fesler drove a double in the left center field gap to score Dold. Fesler would steal third and later score on an error to end the first 2-1 good guys. Scoring would subside until the top of the 3rd when Carroll would tack on 2 more runs making the score 3-2. The Falcons would answer until the bottom of the 4th when they would score 2 runs with 2 outs left in the frame. A single from Tyler Prior with 2 outs would start the rally. Zeb Davis would follow Prior with a double advancing Prior to 3rd. Dold would drive a ball in the left center gap for a double scoring both Prior and Davis to make the score 4-3. In the top of the 6th the Cougars would put up 4 runs and take the wind out of the sails of the Falcon Faithful. With the score now 7-4, Frontier would wait until the final at-bat to show perseverance. Winter Burghardt would start the inning by getting hit with the ball and occupying 1st for a short period. Fesler would fly out to center field for the first out of the final inning. Senior Zach Loy would single to center advancing Burghardt to 3rd leaving the Falcons with runners on 1st and 3rd. Zach Oaks would walk to make the bases packed full of Falcons. After an AJ Hall strikeout, Frontier was left up against a wall with one out remaining. Sam Kriebel would single to RF scoring Burghardt and advancing everyone up base. This left the tying run on second base with 1 out remaining and Prior at the plate. Loy would score on a wild pitch and Prior would see 1 pitch after to get hit in the back This left the tying run on 3rd and Kriebel on second for the winning run. With the count full at 3-2 Zeb Davis would finish his 3-4 performance at the plate with the game winning single to score both the tying run (Oaks) and the winning run (Kriebel) making the score 8-7 and the win going to Frontier. With it being seemingly impossible to score 4 runs with 2 outs, the Falcons proved that the game is not over until the final out is recorded or the final run has been scored.
