Game Recap

Twelve hits weren’t enough for Frontier as it lost a shootout, 16-10 in seven innings, to Pioneer on Monday at Falcon Field.

Cole Fesler racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Falcons. He singled in the first, fifth, and sixth innings.

Levi Grandstaff recorded the win for Pioneer even though he allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

Pioneer ‘s Payton Smith, Grandstaff and Nate Johnson combined for seven hits and five RBIs.

Tyler Prior was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in two innings, walked two and struck out two.

Frontier jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Tanner Dold doubled to start things off before Fesler singled, scoring Dold. More runs came home for Frontier when Fesler scored on an RBI single by Zach Loy.

Pioneer went up for good in the second, scoring six runs on two errors and a two-run triple by Grandstaff.

Two runs in the bottom of the third helped the Falcons close its deficit to 6-4. An RBI single by AJ Hall fueled Frontier’s comeback. But, Grandstaff got Casey Frier to fly out to end the inning.

Pioneer scored one run in the fourth inning, and then followed it up with one more in the seventh. In the fourth, Pioneer scored on a groundout by Tucker Waddups, plating Trey Waddups.

Pioneer added three more runs in the top of the fifth. A error scored Sam Kiser for the inning’s first run.

Frontier scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut its deficit to two. An RBI single by Fesler, an RBI single by Zach Loy, and a two-run error set off the Falcons rally before Jacob Morris would get Winter Burghardt to strike out to end the threat.

Pioneer piled on five more runs in the top of the sixth. A single by Caleb Kindley ignited the offense,, scoring Waddups and Chad Clifford.

A two-run sixth inning helped bring Frontier within five. An RBI double by Dold and an RBI single by Fesler gave Frontier its final runs of the game. The Falcons drop their record to 12-6 on the year and will continue play against Kankakee Valley Tuesday (5/17) @ 5:30pm.
